Substitute Teachers in Iowa Must Have:
- An Iowa teaching license// or substitute teacher license// or paraeducator certification.
- An associate’s degree//or a bachelor’s degree//or 60 college credits through a regionally accredited college or university.
- Completed a substitute authorization course. *
- At least 21 years of age.
Those with a teaching license do not need to complete a substitute authorization course.
