LICENSED EMPLOYEE – VOLUNTEER COACHES
Purpose: To facilitate the utilization of volunteer coaches in the middle school and high school activities programs.
Policy: The Board endorses the utilization of volunteer coaches in middle school and high school activities. The procedures for the selection and use of volunteer coaches shall be developed by the Superintendent and approved by the Board.
The following criteria shall be utilized in the selection and use of volunteer coaches in middle school and high school activities:
The head coach of the sport involved, the Activities Director and the Principal shall jointly determine the need for volunteer assistance. If numbers of participants exceed expectations, volunteers may be considered.
The head coach shall solicit qualified volunteers once a need has been established by the administrators.|
The number of volunteers needed shall be established by the previously mentioned personnel.
The Administration shall terminate the service of the volunteer if the contribution is no longer satisfactory or desired by the school.
Supervision and evaluation of the volunteer is the responsibility of the head coach of that activity.
The Superintendent shall be informed of the volunteer coaches for a sport at least two weeks before that sport season begins.
All volunteer coaches shall be approved by the Board prior to beginning work as a volunteer coach in the sport.
All volunteer coaches will be subject to a State required background check and coaching certification or authorization and shall provide a copy of such a document to the central office.
