Anamosa High School has been selected to host a 2A District Cross Country meet, which is scheduled to be held on Thursday, October 21, at 4:00 PM. The date and time of this meet is set by the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union and the Iowa High School Athletic Association, and neither can be changed by Anamosa Schools unless there is severe weather in the area the day of the meet. There will be 16 varsity teams competing for both the girls and boys teams. This is a great honor for our school district and a tremendous opportunity for our Cross Country athletes as they try to qualify for the State Meet.
We anticipate teams will be arriving at the course on the grounds of the Middle School by 3:00 PM, and parents/fans will most likely be arriving at about that same time. This creates an issue because school dismisses at the same time, so our parents and buses would also be trying to get into and out of the MS area when others are arriving. We already have a scheduled 2 hour early out on Wednesday, October 20, so to minimize what would most likely be a huge traffic issue, we are going to move the originally scheduled early out on Wednesday, October 20, to Thursday, October 21. Just to clarify, Wednesday, October 20 will now be a full day of school and Thursday, October 21 will be a scheduled early out. This will allow all of our students, parents and buses time to move away from the middle school before others start to arrive for the meet.
Our main educational impact with this change will be for our afternoon PreK students at Strawberry Hill Elementary. The elementary administration is in the process of collecting some information for that day and they will be communicating directly to the parents of the students involved in our afternoon PreK classes.
We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause for our families, but with just over three weeks to the date of this change, we are hopeful we are giving you plenty of time to make any necessary arrangements. We thank you in advance for your understanding and cooperation!
