ISSUE:                       Race to the Top

CONTACT:              Superintendent Monroe

BACKGROUND:

At our last meeting we explained how the State of Iowa is involved in a Federal funding application called “Race to the Top”.  You have heard an executive summary per your request.  There are other documents out there as well.

Attached is the Readers Digest version of the application requirements that summarizes the important pieces and what it means for every school district in the state of Iowa.  Also attached is the letter from the Anamosa Teacher Association read at the last meeting.

What is being requested tonight is:

  1. Other questions you need to have answered.
  2. What other documentation do you need to determine Anamosa Community School Districts readiness to participate.  (Must be approved by January 14 – may require another board meeting.)
  3. Possibly, a decision to support or not support signing the required documents the State needs for application.

ISSUE:                       Budget Saving Process

CONTACT:              Superintendent Monroe

BACKGROUND:

All school districts are trying to meet the requirements of the Governors 10% across the board cuts.

In doing so, the administrative team has “drafted” a process to be used for communication and decision making.

In order to begin the process with staff and community, it is important for the Board to discuss these things:

  1. Proposed process.
  2. Roles and responsibilities.
  3. Criteria for decision making – priorities.

Attached is that “draft” proposed process.  We will discuss any additions or deletions to this process.

Specifically we want to discuss Board Policy 200, 800 and 201.3 (see attached) in relationship to roles and responsibilities.

Lastly, we would like the Board to discuss and prioritize the Decision Making Guidelines.  (Narrow list of 15 to 5-8)  We will suggest a procedure to assist you in that decision.  After discussion tonight, we plan to meet with all staff in January to communicate the process and solicit their ideas.  (see attached Google.doc instrument)
