Anamosa Community School District

Regular Meeting

March 1, 2010




The Anamosa Board of Education met in regular session on March 1, 2010, at 7:00 P.M., in the

high school library with President Tiedt presiding.  Members present: Bieber, Riniker, Sellnau,

McKean and Crump.  Director Darrow was absent.


A public hearing was held at this time regarding an early start calendar waiver for the 2010-11

school year.  Hearing no comments from those in attendance the hearing was closed at 7:02 P.M.


Motion by Crump, seconded by Riniker to adopt the agenda, as printed.  Motion carried 6-0.


Motion by Riniker, seconded by Sellnau to approve the consent agenda(personnel appointments/

adjustments), as submitted.  Motion carried 6-0.


Motion by McKean, seconded by Riniker to approve the low bid of $41,960 received from

Greenley Construction and use Local Option Sales Tax as a funding source for completing the

West Middle School repair project.  Motion carried 6-0.


Motion by Sellnau, seconded by Bieber to approve the Barner Realty & Auction proposal that

outlines procedures he will use to market and sell the Highway 64 property.  Motion carried 6-0.


Budget cut recommendations to help the District through the remainder of the year and into part

of 2010-11 were presented by the administrators with final budget decisions to be made next 

month.  It is hoped these ideas can be implemented with minimal impact to student learning and

with minimal reduction of staff.


Linda VonBehren, District Business Manager, presented ideas on FY 2011 certified budget

options and how they would impact District patrons and the income that could be generated

from those levies.  The Board indicated they would support the 14.65 levy option.  Additional

information will be reviewed in April.


Motion by Riniker, seconded by Sellnau to approve the agreement with the Grant Wood Area

Education Agency that provides the Substitute Employee Management System for the 2010-11

school year at a cost of $4,054.  Motion carried 5-0 with Director McKean abstaining.


Motion by Bieber, seconded by McKean to approve a fund raising proposal that will benefit all

Anamosa High School athletic teams.  Cave Marketing and Jones County Tire & Auto Services

will team up with our students who will be selling coupon books for services provided at Jones

County Tire.  Motion carried 6-0.    



Motion by Crump, seconded by Riniker to approve an out of state trip to Lacrosse, WI on March

11th for Building & Trades students who will be touring the Badger Corrugation facility in

Lacrosse.  Motion carried 6-0.


Motion by Riniker, seconded by Sellnau to adjourn at 8:57 P.M.  Motion carried 6-0.
