Anamosa Community School District
November 2, 2009
The Anamosa Board of Education met in regular session on November 2, 2009, at 7:00 P.M., in
the high school library with President Tiedt presiding.† Members present: Bieber, Riniker,
Darrow, Sellnau, McKean and Crump.† Also in attendance, were student council representatives,
Claire Loftus and Jacalyn Russ.
Motion by McKean, seconded by Riniker to adopt the agenda, as printed.† Motion carried 7-0.
Motion by Darrow, seconded by Riniker to approve the consent agenda(personnel appointments
& adjustments), as submitted.† Motion carried 7-0.
Matt McQuillen advised† the Board to consider appealing the city administratorís position re-
quiring a special exception permit for the high school auditorium building.† After hearing com-
plaints from neighbors who live near the proposed construction site, the Zoning Board of Adjust-
ments denied the school districtís request for a building permit at a meeting held last month.† It
was Mattís position that since the high school was a pre-existing and a free standing building
there was no need for the District to get a special exception permit. After hearing Mattís advice,
a motion was made by Director Darrow and seconded by Director Sellnau to contact attorney,
Don Hoskins, and ask him to investigate and advise the Board on the best course of action.
Motion carried 7-0.† In addition to talking with Mr. Hoskins, it was suggested District officials
contact Pat Callahan, City Administrator, to see if he would re-consider his position on this
Linda VonBehren, District Business Manager, was present to advise the Board on budget matters
and alternatives to help resolve financial concerns the District will face in the upcoming months.
There was no official action taken on the budget, this was an informational meeting only.†
Motion by Crump, seconded by McKean to adjourn at 8:10 P.M.† Motion carried 7-0.
