Anamosa Community School District
January 4, 2010
The Anamosa Board of Education met in regular session on January 4, 2010, at 7:00 P.M., in the
high school library with President Tiedt presiding. Members present: Bieber, Riniker, Darrow,
Sellnau, McKean and Crump. Also in attendance were student council representatives, Claire
Loftus and Jacob Englebart.
A public hearing was held at this time regarding the Instructional Support Program Levy. No
one present had any questions or comments, so the hearing was declared closed on a motion by
McKean with a second from Riniker. Motion carried 7-0.
Motion by Darrow, seconded by Sellnau to adopt the agenda, as printed. Motion carried 7-0.
Dennis Waugh and Mark Fassbinder of IIW Engineers & Surveyors, P.C. who met with school
staff earlier in the day to survey the condition of a broken floor joist in the ceiling of room 37
at West Middle School were present to make a preliminary report to the Board. Mr. Waugh
outlined what he felt were the major factors for the failure and made suggestions for rectifying the problem. Rooms 27 and 37 will remain evacuated until the repair work is completed.
Motion by Darrow, seconded by Riniker to approve the Instructional Support Program Levy
Resolution of Participation, as presented. Motion carried 7-0.
Motion by Darrow, seconded by Sellnau to participate in the ”Race to the Top” program and
authorized the Superintendent and the Board President to support the program by signing the
necessary documents needed to proceed in the federally funded initiative. Motion carried 7-0.
Motion by Riniker, seconded by McKean to adjourn at 7:50 P.M. Motion carried 7-0.
