Anamosa Community School District

Special Meeting

June 4, 2012

The Anamosa Board of Education met in special session on June 4, 2012, at 6:30 p.m., in the high school library with President Tiedt presiding.  Members present:  Crump, McKean, Riniker, Kilburg, Lambertsen and Behnke.

Motion by Riniker, seconded by Crump to adopt the agenda, as printed.  Motion carried 7-0.

Members of the Olin Consolidated School District Board of Directors were present to hold a joint Board meeting for the purpose of discussing the whole grade sharing agreement between the two schools.  Overall the transition for both schools has been fairly smooth, but some problems need to be addressed.

One concern the Olin Board had dealt with some transportation issues with many of the athletic practices and events throughout the year.  Olin was having to make far too many trips a day to get students to and from athletic events.  Their other concern centered on the foreign exchange program and how it will affect students and Olin families that want to continue to participate in that program.  Both districts want to continue hosting foreign exchange students, but with some restraints on the total number participating.  It was decided to see how many foreign exchange students have been assigned to each District for 2012-13 school year, before any decisions are made to tweak the system.  The number of participants can be adjusted as needed, but try to keep the total number of foreign exchange students within reason.  Both schools will continue to collaborate and work to solve problems as they arise.

Motion by Crump, seconded by Riniker to adjourn at 6:59 p.m.  Motion carried 7-0.
