Regular Meeting

February 3, 2014

 

 

 

The Anamosa Board of Education met in regular session on February 3, 2014, at 7:00 p.m., in the Anamosa Schools Administrative Offices with President McKean presiding.  Members present:  Lambertsen, Crump, Riniker, Kilburg, Behnke and Claussen.

 

A public hearing was held at this time regarding the Instructional Support Levy Proposed Resolution.    

Hearing no comments from the audience the hearing was closed by President McKean at 7:01 p.m.

 

Motion by Behnke, seconded by Riniker to adopt the agenda, as corrected.  Motion carried 7-0.

Item #5 under old business was deleted until more information is available regarding this issue.

 

Motion by Behnke, seconded by Riniker to approve the consent agenda (personnel appointments/

adjustments), as submitted.  Motion carried 7-0.

 

Motion by Riniker, seconded by Crump to approve the resignation of Sharon Jones, 2nd grade teacher, effective at the end of the 2013-14 school year.  Motion carried 7-0.

 

Motion by Lambertsen, seconded by Kilburg to approve the resignation of Zach Rogers, assistant varsity baseball coach, effective this date.  Motion carried 7-0.

 

Motion by Behnke, seconded by Riniker to approve the Resolution to Participate in the Instructional Support Program, as printed.  Motion carried 7-0.

 

Motion by Lambertsen, seconded by Behnke to authorize the FY 2015 Certified Budget to include an instructional support levy of 10% of the total regular program district cost using primarily income surtax with the balance from property tax.  Motion carried 7-0.

 

Motion by Lambertsen, seconded by Riniker to advertise the Building Trades opening at a 6/10 position

for the 2014-15 school year.  If no response or the right candidate is not found, then the District will work with Monticello CSD for a potential continued shared arrangement for a full-time instructor.  Motion carried 6-1;  Nay:  Claussen.

 

Motion by Riniker, seconded by Kilburg to approve the use of April 21 as a make-up day with the teacher professional development day being moved to the end of the school year.  Motion carried 7-0.

 

After a long discussion regarding a variety of school calendar options for 2014-15, it was decided to delay a decision on the calendar issue until a later date.

 

Motion by Behnke, seconded by Riniker to approve the first reading of revisions to Board policies, as attached.   Motion carried 7-0.

 

Motion by Behnke, seconded by Lambertsen to approve a Valentineís Day fundraiser for Raiders Around the World Club, as submitted.   Motion carried 7-0.

 

 

Motion by Kilburg, seconded by Riniker to go into closed session, at 9:22 p.m., per Iowa Code #21.5(1)(i) to evaluate the professional competency of an individual whose appointment, hiring, performance, or discharge is being considered when necessary to prevent needless and irreparable injury to that individualís reputation and that individual requests a closed session. Motion carried 7-0.

 

Motion by Lambertsen, seconded by Behnke to come out of closed session and immediately adjourn at

10:32 p.m. Motion carried 7-0.
