As many of you have already heard we have been building an amazing new addition to Anamosa High School, the Performing Arts Center! This is going to be called the Ellen Kennedy Performing Arts Center. With this addition we will be able to have choir and band concerts, show choir competitions, plays, and much more in this area. This new center will be able to seat between 700 and 800 people, and there is a large possibility of being able to have a Show Choir Competition in the future which is something Anamosa has never been able to do. One of the cool things about this new place is that all the new lights are LED which means that it is easier to change colors because you do not have to change the gels. This will make the process quicker during plays. There is a new concession area located in the lobby which will be used to serve food and drinks during the concerts.
During the open house on February 21st senior, Cale Thorson, spoke for the music wing. He talked about how the students will benefit from the new auditorium because they will be better prepared for the upcoming competitions. As of now the band and choir concerts have been held in the Anamosa High School and Middle School gyms, now they can finally be held on an actual stage. The turn out for these events is expected to grow by 25%. Cale also mentioned that the Show Choir will be better prepared for competitions because they can practice on an actual stage. They no longer have to practice in the choir/band rooms. This will make everything go more smoothly.
The Anamosa Community School District would like to thank the school board, the community, and special donors for making it possible for Anamosa High School to have such a first class performing arts venue.
